Subject: Outlook Express Pop3 Set-Up
All information below can be edited after set up from menu item: Tools>Account, once there, click on the mail tab and edit your account info as needed.
1: Open your Outlook Express Application
For applications already set up with mail accounts you would do the following as shown below, go to File>Identities>Add New Identity. New application accounts will open as shown below this image, follow instructions as indicated.

First time users will be asked to set up an account, you do this the same as you would if you were adding another identity to your program, so just follow these simple steps.

In the text box above: Type the identity you wish this account to be referred to when you open your application, this is not what will appear on your e-mails.
2: Once you get the account identity set-up as above, you have a chance to set the name which will appear on all your e-mails when sent

This is the name which will appear on all e-mails sent from your account, this will show in the From: section of e-mails, this can also be changed any time.
3: Setting E-Mail Address Information
This is for your reply to address, in most cases it is your e-mail address you will want to put here. There are times when you may want the receiver to reply to another account when they answer your e-mail, if this is the case, that e-mail address will go here.

We do not support spam on our accounts so if you do spam and get caught your account will be deleted immediately with no warning. This is why we recommend that the email reply be your own and not another account, unless for business reasons only. If a complaint comes in as to spam we will start monitoring all e-mails sent and if spam is recognized your account will be discontinued and banned.
4: Setting Up Mail Server Names
Here is where it gets a little tricky, but if you follow instructions it should be easy.
First make sure to set your incoming mail server as a Pop3 server as shown.
Now you must fill in your incoming mail server name, this is always your domain name which you have your account under such as below. Start it off with the ( mail. ) prefix, such as shown below and as ( mail.your-domain-name.com ). Refer to below.

Now comes your Outgoing mail server, this is where most have trouble, you can use your dial up mail server here usually, such as...ie, earthlink, AOL, or who ever, most of the time no prefix is needed. However you can use our servers also but it is recommended to use your own dial up. If you do need to use ours you must follow the instructions below where it says: Using our servers for out going mail.
5: Setting Up Mail Logon
This is where you set your server login to receive your e-mail to your computer.

For most accounts with us, you will use your e-mail address assigned as the account name, so type your e-mail address in the appropriate box as above. Your password is usually what you requested, unless you change it once you are set-up, if you have done this, then the password here should be set to what you have made it. Always write these down some where, as we cannot help you if you forget it. Your entire mail account will have to be restarted, which means a new account and all mail still on the server at that time will be lost. Write Down Your Passwords! It is also advisable not to keep them on any documents on your computer as hackers look for these, where ever they can gain entry. You will see more about Secure Password Authentication later in this document, leave it unchecked for now.
6: Recommendations
It is recommended to edit your application menu item Tools>Options for your accounts.
1: Turn on option to go directly to your inbox when starting program.
2a: Turn off send outgoing mail immediately- You might want to change something and it will be to late because your mail has been sent. If you turn this option off you can always go to your outgoing mail folder and open your mail and re-edit or delete what you want and then send.
2b: Turn off send and receive at start up
2c: Turn off check mail every 30 or so minutes.
2d: Turn off automatically download messages for viewing in preview pain:
Please see 5 and 5a. Virus protection...
3: Turn on Spell check!
4: Turn off Put people I reply to in my address book. If you leave this on you will get everybody and their brothers mailing address in your address book including list subscription addresses. Think about that!
5: It is also recommended to edit your Layout which can be found under menu items:
View>Layout, however this only pertains to the folder you are already in. So to edit your Inbox layout you must first click on it and highlight it first then go to View>Layout.
5a: In the layout view it is recommended that you turn the preview pain off so as not to launch any viruses if someone sends you one automatically, turning off the preview pain will prevent this from happening. Un-Check Show Preview Pain!
6: When you receive an e-mail with an attachment it is advisable not to open that message even if it did come from someone who is a friend. There is an easy way to check these in Outlook Express and find out what is in them before you open it, here is how.
6a: First highlight but do not open the suspected e-mail, do this by clicking once or right clicking on it. Then go to the menu item across the top of the application.
Menu item File>Properties. This will show you the properties box for that e-mail highlighted. You can get useful information from here! Next on the properties box, click the tab at the top marked Details. This will show you what is called the header of the e-mail, this gives you info about who sent it, how many times it was bounced around before it came to you. Next you will see an button at the bottom of the details tab, this is marked: Message Source, click this button and you can see the entire e-mail with out even opening it up. Here you can see if it is a virus or just read the text they sent. Sometimes it is in HTML which makes it hard to read but you can see if it is friendly or foe just from looking at it. Look for a line that says: Content-Type: this will tell you what is in the mail, you may find 1,2,3, or more of these. Check them all.
If you are do not know file extensions. .ie, .jpg, .bmp, .doc, .txt, and such. Here is a useful reference to check: File Extensions.

Subject: How do I create and use multiple mailboxes for a single user?
First you can create a mailbox through the web interface or you can simply send an email to
username-foldername@domain.com (for example BillG-Workstuff@Microsoft.com) when this email is sent it creates a Mailbox called Workstuff in Bill's Email account.
To retrieve email from this Mailbox you can again login to the web interface or Create a new POP3 account using the format username-foldername@domain.com this only pulls down messages from this folder.
Keep in mind these "folders" or mailboxes are simply used to organize your mail messages on the server. You can setup rules via the web interface to send mail to specific locations depending on their content.
